Protecting your data

We follow best practice to protect your data. You can also request the details about the data we hold.

The National Digital Platform (NDP) develops technology to improve how Scotland delivers health and care services. We’re committed to fairness, lawfulness and transparency, and work to keep your data private and secure.

Information governance

NDP provides a range of technical services that currently support a wide range of digital products across NHS Scotland.

The Scottish Government commissioned NES (NHS Education for Scotland) to develop this platform. Information about the way NDP processes personal data is available on the NES privacy notice.

Personal data

You can request information on how any of the digital products we support process your personal data. For this, contact the organisation that NES is providing the service to. These are known as the Data Controllers.

In most cases, the Data Controller is your local Health Board. Read how the NHS handles your personal health information. In this link, you can also find the contact details of your local NHS Data Protection Officer.

For information on how any of the digital products we support these processes, contact the data controller.

Accessing information

You have the right to request access to information held by NES. This right is outlined in the:

  • UK’s Data Protection legislation for information about you
  • Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 for information relating to the environment
  • Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 for all other information

For more details on how to request information stored on the NES corporate websites, read the Freedom of Information section.

As we continue to add resources to the NDP website, we’ll include updated information on how user groups can access these resources in line with our overall governance arrangements.
